How to get in the line of sight for the next promotion? What marketing strategy do I need to market myself?

I’m currently in managment but looking to obtain a role with direct reports for the experience. I don’t have a mentor and I really feel like I need one. I don’t know what I should or shouldn’t do to be considered. I know that I’m doing a good job because of the positive feedback I get. I just don’t know if its good enough to stand out.
